VALLEY CITY, ND (KFGO) - Outgoing Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson will be paid a severance of $110,000.
The city commission accepted Thompson's surprise resignation this week. He was appointed in 2012.
The severance agreement prohibits Thompson and city officials from publicly discussing the separation, or writing about it on social media.
The agreement says Thompson will continue to collect his salary and benefits until January 3rd, 2017, when his severance will be paid in full.
Lieutenant Phil Hatcher is the acting police chief. The search for a new chief of police will begin next month.
