BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Sentencing has been delayed two months for a man accused of killing another man on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.
Marcel Chase was to be sentenced Aug. 22 in the December 2014 slaying of Toby Young Bear. The hearing has now been moved to Oct. 24, to allow more time for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.
Authorities say Chase killed Young Bear during a drug-fueled fight, and hid the body in the trunk of a car while he recruited others to help dispose of it. He was charged with murder but pleaded guilty in federal court in May to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter.
Chase faces up to 15 years in prison, rather than a potential life term under the original charge.
