FARGO (KFGO) - Travel conditions remain hazardous across much of the northern Great Plains as a winter storm continues to sweep across the region.  Fargo-Moorhead has received mostly rain.   Winds began to increase Monday morning and travel conditions deteriorated.

The combination of freezing rain, snow and high winds that forced the shutdown of several highways including I-94 from Valley City to the Montana line, I-29 from Grand Forks to the Canadian line.  Travel was not recommended in Roberts County in northeastern South Dakota.  No travel was advised in most of Northwestern Minnesota.

Several power companies reported scattered power outages.  In western Minnesota, Lake Region Electric Cooperative and Otter Tail Power reported outages, that totaled huindreds of customers.  Otter Tail also has outages in parts of North Dakota.  The electic co-op serving Lamoure and Dickey Counties in North Dakota was dealing with outages as well.  Repair crews have been working in most cases since Sunday afternoon to restore electricity.
