BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - More bad weather is forecast in southern North Dakota where opponents of the Dakota Access oil pipeline are camping out for the winter.
National Weather Service meteorologist Greg Gust says the blizzard warning for Sioux County runs through Monday. He says about 8 to 12 inches of snow is expected with 30 to 45 mph winds kicking in later in the weekend.
A blizzard earlier this month dumped more than half a foot of snow on the encampment and led many protesters to leave. Morton County Sheriff's Department spokesman Rob Keller says it's difficult to tell how many people are left at the camp, but he believes there could be at least 500. Standing Rock Tribal Chairman Dave Archambault II did not immediately respond to a phone message seeking comment.
