FARGO (KFGO) - A man who Fargo police say shot himself to death to end a stand off at Southeast Human Services Thurs. night went to the 2nd floor office of an employee with a gun.
Police Chief Dave Todd has revealed that no one else in the building knew that the armed man was in the woman's office. Nearly three hours later, she was able to answer a text from her husband in which she indicated something was wrong. Officers responded and entered the office to find Jon Casper, 49, of Fargo, with a gun to his head.
An officer got the woman out and officers backed out of the office and police negotiators started a dialouge with Casper over the phone. Casper later shot himself in the head, with the bullet going through a window and over the heads of officers outside.
Todd says the employee was not threatened by Casper, but she didn't know his intentions. Police won't say whether Casper was a client of Southeast or whether he and the woman knew one another.
Chief Todd has high praise for patrol officers Aldin Golos, Taylor Savageau and Brad Cernik who got the woman safely out of the building. All three joined the department just last year.
