Morton County, N.D. (KFGO) - Three protesters were arrested for trespassing along the Dakota Access Pipeline construction site, scene of demonstrations between law enforcement and Native Americans and environmentalist who are against the building of the $3.8 billion project.
The Morton County Sheriff's Department says those arrested Monday afternoon are charged with criminal trespassing onto private property, inciting a riot and resisting arrest. They were part of a group of about 200 people who demonstrated near the fenced-off Dakota Access Pipeline horizontal drill pad.
The three unidentified people were accused of cutting security wire, removing fencing material and dismantled lights that are used to illuminate a bridge near the confluence of the Cannonball River and the Missouri River.
They had made their way from the main protest camp along the Cannonball River and headed north along the shoreline of the Missouri River.
Since August, authorities have made 589 arrests.
