GRAND FORKS (KNOX) - A major centerpiece of the new Veterans Park in Grand Forks arrived Monday. It's an anchor from the U-S-S Kiska. Crews carefully placed the anchor atop a concrete pedestal. The Kiska sailed in the Vietnam War.
Park Committee member John Hanson says the anchor is massive, measuring about 17 feet long and 10 feet high, weighing approximately 19 tons.
The park located northwest of Columbia Mall is designed as place to recognize and honor American military veterans.
Hanson says the next big project is installation of a 40 foot long granite wall etched with information on the role veterans have played during wars and conflicts.
