THOMPSON, N.D. (KFGO) - For the fourth time in the past four years Thompson voters rejected a school expansion project. Superintendent John Maus says 52-percent of the voters supported the project but it fell short of the 60-percent needed for approval in Tuesday's election. The unofficial tally was 642 to 592.
The expansion would have added 20 new classrooms and renovated heating and lighting in the school.
Earlier this year voters narrowly rejected an eleven-million dollar plan. School officials say enrollment has increased each year since 2008 - now estimated at around 500 students.
