MOORHEAD (KFGO) - Moorhead police say a shot was fired during a disturbance at an apartment at 1916 18th Avenue South Thursday morning.

Officers were called to a noise complaint shortly before 4 a.m. People there were told to leave and as officers were clearing the scene, they were called to an adjacent apartment on a report of a possible burglary attempt.

Sgt. Thad Stafford says a man attempted to get inside an apartment. The tenant, believing the man was trying to break-in, chased the man and fired a shot at him as he fled the building. The bullet passed through the wall of another apartment but no one was home. The man with the gun obeyed police and dropped the weapon. Police found the second man outside. Stafford says its believed the other man was confused and thought he had returned to the apartment he had left earlier.

No one was hurt.

Police say a report will be sent to prosecutors to determine if any charges will be filed.
