PIERRE, S.D. - Gov. Dennis Daugaard says it's a concern that South Dakota has landed on San Francisco's list of places where city workers aren't allowed to go on official business.

The move came after the state passed a law aimed at protecting faith-based organizations that refuse to place children with gay couples or other arrangements contrary to their religious beliefs.

Civil liberties groups and LGBT advocates say it opens the door to discrimination.

The travel ban's financial impact on South Dakota wasn't immediately clear. Daugaard said Monday that he wants South Dakota to be seen as a good destination for business and tourists.

But he says the law's effect has been blown out of proportion. The Republican governor says the state funds its contracts with federal dollars, which prohibits discrimination.
