Dazey, N.D. (KFGO) - Investigators are trying to determine who is responsible for a fire at a former U.S. Air Force missile alert facility along Highway 1 near Dazey, North Dakota.

Barnes County Chief Deputy Don Fiebiger said someone pried off a lock to gain entry into the building. He said the State Fire Marshal is investigating three areas inside the structure where a flammable liquid was used to start the fire just before 7 a.m. Monday.

Fiebiger said the structure is privately owned. The owner has been using it for storage since purchasing it from the U.S. Government.

Dazey Fire Chief Daryl Kunze said the structure remains intact but is severely damaged as flames reached the rafters on the roof during the fire.

The facility was used to housed security personnel and other support staff in relation to ballistic missiles.

Anyone with information about the fire should call the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office at 701-845-8530.
