City of Minot pondering buying land for fifth fire station

MINOT, N.D. (AP) - The Minot Fire Department is looking into buying up to $500,000 worth of land for a new fire station in the northwest part of the city.

Fire Chief Kelli Flermoen says the proposed $3.6 million station is necessary to provide the level of fire protection that residents in that area expect. City Planning Director Robert Davis says Minot is also expected to grow in that direction.

Flermoen hopes design work can start this year because it will take about a year to complete. Construction would take another year. The sales tax-funded station would be the city's fifth.

Minot opened a $3.4 million fire station in the southeastern part of the city last March.
