FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) - The owner of a Fergus Falls auto dealership says he expects his company to be cleared in a criminal investigation into double-billing and overcharging on a state law enforcement contract.

Nelson Auto owner Brent Nelson says the contract involved the purchase of about 1,300 "Police Interceptor" vehicles for 230 agencies across Minnesota. Nelson tells KFGO News that the manager responsible was fired after an internal audit discovered about $340,000 in discrepancies.

“The state said there’s nothing more that we could have done. We brought (the issue) to their attention. We’re the ones who laid this thing out for them” Nelson said. “They are having an ongoing investigation with the terminated fleet manager, but as far as the dealership is concerned, they’ve assured us that they’re very happy with what we have done.”

Nelson says the actions of his former fleet manager are "disturbing." He says he wants to "do the right thing" and take care of his customers.
