Larimore, N.D. (KFGO) - A Devils Lake man is facing multiple charges after leading troopers on a high speed chase Sunday afternoon.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports around 1:15 p.m., a trooper encountered a speeding motorists near Larimore on Highway 2. The car was going 102 mph in a 70 mph zone.
The trooper attempted a traffic stop but the car fled. A pursuit ensued and lasted about 15 minutes.
The car eventually entered a field where it became stuck. The driver fled on foot. Troopers gave chase and were able to catch the man.
James Smith Jr. was charged with speeding, fleeing, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and driving under suspension.
During the foot chase, Smith's car started on fire and completely burned. The Larimore Rural Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
