Fergus Falls, MN (KFGO) - Witnesses say a driver was looking down just before the car she was driving crossed into oncoming traffic Monday night east of Fergus Falls.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a car was eastbound on Highway 210 when the driver crossed lanes. The car moved back into the correct lanes but then went into the ditch, down a hill, across a dirt road and then hit a tree.

The patrol reports witnesses say the driver was looking down towards her lap when she moved into oncoming traffic.

The 23-year-old driver, Erin Bottko of Battle Lake, and her 3-year-old passenger, also of Battle Lake, were taken to Lakes Region medical center with non-life threatening injuries.

The patrol reports that the 3-year-old was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash happened around 5:40 p.m. Monday. The patrol reports the road was wet at the time of the crash.
