FARGO (KFGO) - The name of Fargo Police officer Jason Moszer, killed in the line of duty in 2016, is being added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial dedicated during a candlelight vigil planned for Saturday night at the National Mall in Washington, D.C..
90 people from the Fargo-Moorhead area, including Moszer's family and 39 officers and staff from the Fargo Police Department, will be attending the ceremonies which mark the start of National Police week.
Chief Dave Todd expects it to be emotional but also a part of the healing process over the loss of Moszer, the first Fargo officer killed in the line of duty since 1882.
Todd says, "Jason will be a part of this department's history forever but we also have to find ways to celebrate Jason's life and move past the sorrow."
More than $65,000 was raised to help defray travel and hotel expenses for the Moszer family, police and spouses traveling to the ceremonies. That included money raised by the North Dakota Fraternal Order of Police by selling a coin commerating Moszer and by a large donaton from Gate City Bank.
