MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) - A special prosecutor will be asked to take over the case of a Fargo police officer who is facing a domestic assault charge in Moorhead.
Clay County Attorney Brian Melton says he wants to avoid any conflicts of interest in the case involving Fargo Police Officer Jeremiah Ferris. Ferris was placed on administrative leave after his arrest earlier this week. He’s been charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic assault.
Melton says he will ask another county attorney's office to prosecute Ferris.
Melton says a conflict with his office could arise because Ferris is a canine officer who is occasionally called to provide assistance to police officers in Moorhead.
