FARGO (KFGO) - A fishing trip on the Red River turned into a major rescue operation when two men in a boat got stuck on a dam in south Fargo.
Justin Kill and his father, Ron, were in their boat when the trolling motor lost power. Kill says he tried starting the main motor, but they were already too close to the dam to pull away.
“It just started sucking us in” according to Justin Kill. “The trolling motor was on full blast and the other motor couldn’t start, so we just went right in. We learned a lesson today."
Rescue crews anchored special cables to trees on both sides of the river to pull the men to safety. No one was hurt.
The boat was stuck sideways in the middle of the river by large boulders. It took firefighters from Fargo and Moorhead about two hours to complete the rescue.
