Man arrested after standoff at Sioux Falls hotel

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Sioux Falls police say a six-hour standoff ended peacefully with a man who barricaded himself inside a hotel with two hostages.

Authorities arrested the 34-year-old Sioux Falls man on Friday night. He is being held on a parole detainer and faces possible charges of intentional damage to property, grand theft and kidnapping.

Police say both hostages were unharmed.Police say the incident began in the afternoon at the Old Courthouse Museum, where the suspect was damaging displays. The suspect then left, stole a car and drove to the Dakotah Lodge. Police were able to track the man because of a GPS device in the car.

Authorities say the suspect entered a hotel room occupied by a woman and a girl. The man was unarmed when he eventually surrendered to officers.
