GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - The University of North Dakota men's hockey program has added former UND standout and NHL player Matt Smaby to its support staff.
Smaby recently retired as a professional and has returned to UND to complete his degree. Head coach Brad Berry says Smaby will serve as a student manager.
The Minneapolis native played at UND from 2003 through 2006. He went on to play four years with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning. He spent the last four years of his pro career playing in Germany.
