Complaint says stolen pigs were run over, forced into bonfire

CANDO, N.D. (KFGO) - Felony animal cruelty charges have been filed in connection with the theft of two pigs from a swine facility near Cando. N.D.

Court documents say the pigs were stolen May 16th from a secured facility owned by Sky Can Ltd. One of the defendants is accused of driving over a pig and breaking its back leg. Another pig was forced to run through a bonfire.

Burglary and theft charges have also been filed. Prosecutors say entry to the facility was made by using a pocketknife on a padlock. The break-in caused more than $37,000 in damages.

The five suspects are from Devils Lake, Cando and Fort Totten.
