BISMARCK (KFGO) - The chancellor of the state board of higher education says he was pressured to fire Interim University of North Dakota President Ed Schafer after the former governor endorsed Doug Burgum during the 2016 campaign for governor.
Chancellor Mark Hagerott made his first public comments on the topic on KFGO News & Views. He says Schafer asked whether the endorsement would be proper.
Hagerott won't disclose who applied the political pressure. He says a respected state political leader stepped in and put a stop to it.
The chancellor won't discuss his decision to fire a vice-chancellor. He calls Lisa Feldner a highly-talented public servant.
