MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) - A former Moorhead man accused of torturing and killing three cats has entered an Alford plea of guilty to a felony charge of mistreatment and torture of animals. Two additional charges were dropped against Jalan Greer, who now lives in Rapid City, S.D.
Assistant Clay County Attorney Pam Harris says a judge will determine Greer's sentence. “He’s not admitting any guilt, but saying that if he went to trial, he would lose.”
Harris says police officers were prepared to testify that when they went to Greer's apartment in January, they found a dead cat bleeding from its mouth and ears--and that Greer admitted he squeezed the cat around its neck.
Greer will be sentenced in November.
