NTSB issues preliminary report on fatal airplane crash

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) - The National Transportation Safety Board has issued a preliminary report on an airplane crash that killed three people Saturday near Thief River Falls, Minn.

The report says skies were overcast and clouds were just 400 feet above the ground when the Cessna TR182 crashed about three miles west of the Thief River Falls airport.  A witness who was about a mile away told investigators that the airplane's engine was "screaming" before he heard the crash. The report also says there was a fire and explosion.

The victims were 69-year-old Moy Wing, 27-year-old Brian Duke and 26-year-old Zach Ostertag, all from Rawlins, Wyoming. On the morning of the crash, a hotel employee said the passengers expressed concerns about possible turbulence.

The report does not mention a possible cause. The investigation remains open.
