VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) - The Valley City Police Department is warning of a scam after two people lost several thousand dollars.
Lt. Dana Rustebakke said two Valley City residents told police they had been scammed. He said the most recent report was on Sept. 28 from a woman who was victimized for $7,000.
The victim said she received a call stating they were police officers and had arrested a family member of the victim. She was told she could send bond money so their family member would be released. The victim was then contacted again stating a judge ordered a fine and requested more money.
The victim then contacted law enforcement. Rustebakke said this is the second such report received by police within the last 2 weeks.
