LAKE BRONSON, MINN. (KFGO) - Luke Hagness of Casselton says it was the thrill of his lifetime.
A hunter since he was 13, he was bow hunting east of Lake Bronson, Minnesota, when he got a bear. You could call it a trophy.
Hagness said it was definately a record in his book, weighing in at 456 pounds. He hasn't measured the scull yet to see if it will make Boone & Crockett but is confident it will make make Pope & Young. Both are considered the archer's Holy Grail when it comes to record books.
Hagness, on the fourth day of a five day bow hunt arranged by Bear Busters Outfitters of Karlstad, had been on a ladder stand for five hours, and it was nearly dark when the big bear wandered out and was about 25 yards away when he got his shot.
Hagness says the average size of black bears in Minnesota is 150 to 200 pounds.
