EVAC to call it quits

FARGO (KFGO) - A volunteer, emergency response organization plans to call it quits. EVAC was founded in 1977 and has provided support throughout the Fargo area for everything from emergencies to managing traffic at big events like concerts, Bison games and the Fargo Marathon and as weather spotters. The non-profit relies on donations to operate.

EVAC head Ryan Sherbrooke says finding volunteers and the cost of insurance and has made it difficult to continue.  He says it's a problem similar to what many first responders are now facing.

EVAC only has about a dozen active volunteers. Sherbrooke says there a slim chance the team may continue to operate but EVAC's insurance policy ends at midnight. Loss of those volunteers means law enforcement officers will handle those duties
