FARGO (KFGO) - A suspected car burglar was arrested Saturday by Fargo police thanks to tip from an alert resident who reported suspicious activity.
The 9-1-1 caller spotted a pickup with no lights, driving through the 4700 and 4800 blocks of Spencer Lane South around 2:45 a.m., stopping and trying door handles of parked vehicles. Sgt. Troy Hannig says in this case, the tipster did exactly the right thing by calling authorities without trying to alert the suspect police were on the way.
29-year old Jesse Ortega of Fargo was arrested after a pickup matching the description given by the caller was stopped. Police were able to connect items tossed from his vehicle to the victims.
Investigation indicates attempts were made to enter approximately 15 vehicles and one garage. Most of the attempts were not successful because the vehicles were locked.
