WEST FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) - Debi Berger of West Fargo didn't get to experience her dying wish but her family and the community made sure it was carried out.

Debi died in hospice care Friday, a day before her planned, special early Christmas surprise was to happen. Debi's last wish to her daughter was to see Christmas lights. Saturday night, a full-fledged, city wide effort was held to grant Debi's wish.

Carolers filled the streets, lights lit up homes and police cars and fire trucks lined the roads. Santa Claus was even there. West Fargo Rich Mattern issued a proclamation, declaring Saturday, "Debi Berger Day."

Her daughter, Britney Berger was overwhelmed by the tribute to her mother. She said, "loving everybody was something she always tried to do and that's all we wanted from this, was people to come together and love everybody."

Debi Berger was 55.
