FARGO (KFGO) - Branden Medenwald, who's heading up an initiated measure to repeal the state's 123 year old ban on Sunday morning shopping has started an on-line petition drive to gather more signatures.

He says since volunteers started the petition drive this summer, about 25% of needed signatures have been collected to get it on next November's ballot. Because cold weather will slow that process, the on-line petition drive should keep the campaign going.  Thursday, Medenwald spoke to the Downtown Community Partnership,  which represents small business owners and city leaders.  He says most business's he's talked to are supportive because it does not force stores to be open.

Board member Brad Wimmer has mixed reaction to the the referral effort. He likes the "pick and chose," but doesn't relish the idea of opening one more day. He calls it a "Catch-22."

Medenwald is asking volunteers to commit to collect 50 signatures by the end of the year. Petitions can be downloaded from a website link. Details can be found on at ndopensundays.com
