BISMARCK, N.D. - Hunters killed six mountain lions during the early season in North Dakota's Zone 1, which ended Sunday.
The harvest limit was eight. The late season, when hunters can purse mountain lions with dogs opened Monday and runs through March 31 - or until the late season harvest of seven total lions or three female lions is reached.
After the late season, the Game and Fish Department says a conditional season could open five days later to pursue the additional two lions that weren't taken during the early season. Zone 1 includes land in western North Dakota. The rest of the state outside Zone 1 has no harvest limit.
The mountain lion season is open only to North Dakota residents. Hunters need a furbearer or combination license to participate.
