Fargo, N.D. (KFGO) - A former Fargo priest has been extradited back to Fargo to face child sexual abuse charges in Cass County District Court.
Fernando Sayasaya was arrested in the Philippines last month and recently extradited back to the U.S. by the U.S. Marshal's Service to face child sexual abuse charges. The charges were first filed in 2002.
The state's attorney's office says the charges allege the offenses took place between July 1995 and June 1997 for one victim and June 1997 through August 1998 for another.
A federal indictment was returned on Sayasaya for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in January 2003 when he failed to return to the states following a visit to the Philippines.
The U.S. will dismiss the federal charges to allow Cass County to proceed with their charges.
Sayasaya is currently in the Cass Coutny Jail.
