Washington, D.C. (KFGO) - Another local police chief has gone to Washington D.C. to learn more about the recommendations rolled out by the president's task force on 21st century policing.
West Fargo Police Chief Mike Reitan says he doesn't agree with everything, especially when it comes to equipment restrictions.
"We need to make sure that the public is protected," Reitan says, "but we also need to make sure that the officers providing that protection to the public are also protected from harm."
Some national and international police groups have also been giving pushback to the restrictions on rifles and bearcat armored vehicles.
Reitan did agree with some of the things in the report, like using social media to engage with the public, doing community oriented policing, and using liason officers; things his department is already doing.
Fargo Chief Dave Todd was already in D.C. to hear more about the report, and Moorhead Chief Dave Ebinger plans to go soon.
