Grand Forks, N.D. (KNOX) - A social detox center is open in downtown Grand Forks after years of planning.
The ten-bed facility is a joint effort between the city, county, Northeast Human Services and public health.
Project Coordinator Curtis Scanson says they opened the doors October 12th but have only seen a handful of clients so far.
"I do anticipate that changing pretty soon," Scanson said. "I do anticipate it picking up the more people find out about it and understand what the services are."
Scanson says the Grand Forks Withdrawal Management center is a non-medical social detox facility.
"We help people detox from alcohol and drugs without the use of medical attention," Scanson said. "So, we provide people with rest, relaxation, hydration, nutrition and then the staff here can help these clients sober up and then get into the treatment services that are appropriate for them."
It’s estimated the facility's budget will hit $328,000 in 2019.
