FARGO (KFGO) - Fargo and Cass county commissioners have approved ballot language for the November 8 election that will ask voters to approve exentsions of three sales taxes to finance the local share of the $2.2 billion FM Diversion project.
The measures extends the half cent sales taxes through the year 2084 but Mayor Tim Mahoney says work continued through the weekend to come up with changes in the ballot language in the hopes the measures will be more acceptable to voters. Mahoney says many of the concerns he heard from the public and some commissioners was that if the bills were paid off early, the proceeds would be used for other things. The ballot language seeks to pay off the debt as soon as possible.
A financial consultant told commissioners it's possible the project debt could be paid off by 2059.
