FARGO (KFGO) - Fargo police say a construction vehicle stolen over the weekend has been recovered. The driver is still being sought.

The crane-forklift was taken from a construction site at NP Avenue and University early Sunday and found several miles away, parked outside a business in the 300 block of 7th Street Northwest in West Fargo.

Police say the driver who took the machine for a joyride apparently didn't know how to operate it. There was damage to pavement and curbs along a stretch of roadway. In the 700 block of 10th Street North, a utility pole was hit and snapped off at the base. Only a single service wire to a home kept it from toppling. That required closure of a portion of 10th Street while Xcel Energy replaced the pole.

Officer Jessica Schindeldecker says there was no apparent damage to the equipment. She says the theft should serve as a "friendly reminder" to construction workers to lock things up and remove keys.
