Ready or not: Winter about to arrive

FARGO (KFGO) - A sure sign of the approaching winter storm: wet streets in Fargo this morning. No, it didn't rain. Street crews have been out with tankers, pre-treating main roadway's with a salt brine solution. It prevents snow from bonding and forming ice on the road surface. Because of warmer temperatures, beet brine, sometimes part of the mix, is not being used for this storm.

Fargo Public Works Supervisor Lee Anderson says once the snow starts late tonight and into Friday, crews and equipment will be ready to roll. The city has 33-pieces of snow removal equipment and over 2,000 lane miles of streets to plow.

Anderson reminds drivers, no matter how much snow falls, streets will be slick late tonight and tomorrow and you need to adjust your driving habits.

For this snow event, Fargo crews will lay down about 200 pounds of salt per lane mile.
