BISMARCK (KFGO) - The North Dakota National Guard says it's not necessarily a "call up" but it is requesting more soldiers and airmen from units "across the board" to assist law officers who are dealing with Dakota Access Pipeline protesters in Morton County.
National Guard spokeswoman Major Amber Balken says these soldiers and airmen will being doing what they have been doing, types of operations that you don't have to be a licensed law officer to do.
Major Balken says there are now about 90 national guard members on duty in Morton County. By the end of the week, with the "draw up", that number is expected to increase to about 130 personnel.
Balken says personnel will be rotated in and out for as long as they're needed.
