BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Dozens of schools in the Dakotas started late or canceled classes during the second day of a winter storm.

The National Weather Service has posted various winter weather warnings and advisories for the two states. Forecasters say in central North Dakota, snowfall amounts of 10-18 inches will be common by the time the storm moves out Wednesday. Bismarck has received 14.5 inches of snow.

Northwestern South Dakota and the northern Black Hills could see a foot or more of snow.

Strong wind blowing the snow around is making travel dangerous. A travel alert has been issued for western North Dakota, and no travel is advised in the south central part of the state. Dozens of accidents occurred in the Bismarck area Monday.

Dickinson State University and United Tribes Technical College in North Dakota closed on Tuesday.
