FARGO (KFGO) - The Fargo-Moorhead Salvation Army is no stranger to getting gold coins during its annual Red Kettle fundraising campaign, but volunteers found their first gold coin of the season Tuesday in the kettle set up at the Northport Hornbachers and it was a nice surprise.
The gold nickel is worth an estimated $1200.
Major Byron Medlock says over the years, they've never determined if there's more than one benefactor or even a hint of who the person or persons may be.
Bell ringers bring in about two-thirds of the Salvation Army's budget every year. This year's goal is $900,000. If you want to help ring bells, call the Salvation Army or check them out on-line to schedule a time.
