FERGUS FALLS, MN (KFGO) - An electric rate increase from Otter Tail Power Co. would be slashed by 70% under a recommendation from the Minnesota Dept. of Commerce.
Otter Tail, headquartered in Fergus Falls, has filed for a $19-million increase. A review by the state found that a $5-million dollar increase is more realistic.
Otter Tail maintains that it has not had a rate increase in some time and is providing electricity based on 2009 costs. The utility will respond to the department's recommendation next month.
The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission will make the final decision.
