FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) - President Donald Trump's executive order cracking down on immigration is affecting immigrants who are scheduled to come to North Dakota over the next several months.
Jessica Thomasson is CEO of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota, the group federally contracted to resettle refugees in the state. She says the order had an immediate impact on those scheduled to arrive in North Dakota in the next couple of days. A group of elderly refugees from Iraq who were supposed to leave this past weekend were blocked from leaving.
Thomasson calls the situation "heartbreaking" and says at this point, staff is doing what it can to keep families already in the state informed about what's happening. 22 refugees were scheduled to arrive in North Dakota next week and another 20 in the following weeks.
