MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) - Moorhead police are cautioning area businesses to watch out for counterfeit money following an unusual theft involving fake $100 bills.

Lt. Tory Jacobson says the replica bills were stolen from a National Guard recruiting display at Minnesota State University-Moorhead. Jacobson says the fake money is used as a prop for recruiting purposes to represent tuition cost savings.

The $100 bills resemble real currency in size and initial appearance, but they lack security features and the feeling of real cash.

Jacobson says anyone with information is asked to contact the Moorhead Police Dept.
