BISMARCK (KFGO) - Lawmakers have approved a settlement of nearly $16-million for the founder of Racing Services Inc. of Fargo.
A bankruptcy judge ordered the payment to Susan Bala for taxes that the state collected when she ran the horse race-betting company. Bala was convicted of illegal betting. She spent time in federal prison until her conviction was overturned.
The legislature approved the amount as it neared adjournment. The judge must still rule on terms of the settlement.
