Water pipe bursts, floods Fargo Coliseum

FARGO (KFGO) - A big mess inside the John E. Carlson Coliseum in north Fargo. A main water line burst, flooding the building Tuesday morning.

Park District Facilities Manager Dean Ambuehl says a teacher on the way to classes at Fargo North nearby called about 7:15 a.m. to report water "gushing" from the main doors of the arena. He says water was about 2 feet deep in parts of the building. The water was so deep employees couldn't open the door to get at the shut-off. The city water department was then called in to shut off the valve of the main line at the curbside.

Ambuehl says the water line break should not delay preparations for flooding the rink for hockey. That will begin in October.

There's no word on on a damage estimate.

The Coliseum is scheduled for major renovation starting in the fall of 2017 at a cost of $4.3 million.
