FARGO (KFGO-AM) - North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger says a computer system that handles North Dakota ballot information is being checked after an FBI warning about election security.
The FBI is asking states to boost their security because hackers broke into data systems in two states.
Jaeger says there are no indications that North Dakota’s election system has been compromised. “Anything that’s found will be corrected” Jaeger said. “We’re in the process of making sure our systems are covered, which I think they are, and certainly will be.”
Jaeger says a list of I-P addresses provided to the state is being inspected to make sure that they don't pose a threat. “Those addresses and those procedures that were identified by the FBI are going through scrutiny.”
The FBI's warning came after the Department of Homeland Security spoke with state election officials around the nation about cybersecurity and election infrastructure.
