Grand Forks, N.D. (KFGO) - A 47-year-old Manitoba driver was able to escape uninjured after the load of hay he was hauling caught fire Thursday night near Grand Forks.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says just before 9 p.m., the semi was southbound on I-29 when, for unknown reasons, the hay started on fire. The driver got the semi stopped on the shoulder and escaped without injury.
Manvel and Thompson Fire Departments responded and extinguished the fire.
Both southbound lanes of the interstate were closed for three hours.
The incident happened about four miles north of Grand Forks near mile-marker 146.
