HOPKINS, Minn. (KFGO) - A man who's running for mayor in Hopkins, Minn. is telling residents that a planned extension of light rail service is going to bring in "riff-raff and trash" from Minneapolis. Bob Ivers made the remarks during a League of Women Voters candidate forum.
“You’re going to have all the ethnics you want” Ivers said. “I think all kinds of riff-raff and trash from Minneapolis are going to jump on that thing and they’re coming to town, baby. So everybody, hide your kids and lock your doors because here it comes.”
“You listen real close. I predict within two months of that (light rail) coming through here, there’s going to be a shooting. You think about that.”
Ivers is running against Mayor Molly Cummings, who called Ivers' remarks “outrageous, unfortunate and frightening.”
