FARGO (KFGO) - Metro mayors have announced the formation of a Blue Ribbon Commission on Addiction. Following a series of educational community forums on the opioid crisis responsible for 10 overdose deaths and many more non-fatal overdoses since the first of year, they say it's time for action to come up with solutions.
Pat Traynor, President of Dakota Medical Foundation, who first brought the idea to local leaders, says this is a "call to action, citizens to come forward, leaders to emerge." He says this an invitation to the the commission as it looks at prevention, treatment and recovery.
Experts will come up with preliminary recommendations by Dec. Traynor hopes they can develop a model for the entire country on how to deal with the opioid problem.
