WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - The city of Williston has started construction on a $240 million airport northwest of the oil patch hub. A ground-breaking ceremony was held Monday for the project being funded by federal, state and city dollars.
The city's existing Sloulin Field International Airport saw a ten-fold increase in passengers from 2008 to 2014, due in large part to record oil activity. The new Williston Basin International Airport is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018.
